What is fiction writing?

nlalit.comFiction writing is extremely evocative…
You live and die a thousand times.

According to Wikipedia, fiction writing is “The composition of non-factual prose texts, often produced as a story meant to entertain or convey an author’s point of view”. What it doesn’t mention is the fact that fiction writing evokes emotions of varying types and intensities, and somewhere down this lonely journey writers live and die a thousand times.

The rise and fall of writers occur at every stage – right from plotting point till the last period is inserted.

Some writers experience gloom when one of their favourite characters eases out of the story, for others rejection/s from publishers / literary agents spell doom. Then there are others who doubt their writing skill and nurture this incertitude with reverence resulting in frequent fall outs – a side effect that can kill an author, metaphorically.

But then there are moments of sheer bliss, of untamed euphoria, especially when the ambiguities and ramifications of writing are negotiated after a prolonged and painful creative manipulation. A random call from an agent or a mail from the literary God ( Publisher ) infuses divine energy into the writer; a kind of rebirth.

On the other hand, for readers, a fiction book is simply a written tale. They don’t realise the number of times an author falls and rises emotionally to complete the work.

Support authors; give them a new lease of life.
