What is pathetic fallacy?

nlalit.comAssigning human feelings to inanimate objects / nature is an essential ingredient of fiction and non-fiction writing. This attribution is called pathetic fallacy. Metaphor and hyperbole are some of the other important terms frequently exploited in literature.

Here is an example ( Pathetic Fallacy ) from my unpublished book “Shadows from the past”.

“I spent these forty eight hours building the story further, albeit mentally, my feet dipped in ocean water, and the innocent, soothing ripples taming my unruly thoughts. If God’s home was up somewhere in the clouds mine was right here. There were times when the fog blanketed the entire watery surface, and the air resonated with just the sound of waves and the occasional call of migratory birds. Then abruptly the obscurity dispersed reflecting crisp imagery.”
